I’ve gotten

Tripped up on my

Piano fantasy

Frank O’Hara

Wishing that I were her

I gave her strength

And power over every part of me

But now I’m not so sure

It pains me

The poisonous point

This separation of sense

You reach for me

Through time and the distance

Of time

all I know

Is that I still

Have his hand to hold on to

And I’m trying to

Not let go

If you’re there somewhere

In the other dimension

I’m just letting you know

I stopped descending staircases

Long ago

I learned that to be an upright man

I need to save face

And pretend

I’m just that good

So if you see me

Through your picture window

Save me a seat by

The orchestra

In my heart of hearts

I’m a piano player

With the breath of new

Sky and the whole

Wide world

Because you won’t be

All alone
